From July 5th to 7th, the 12th Youth Forum and Academic Seminar on "National Memory and Artistic Imagination" of the Chinese society for literary and artistic theory were held in Hohhot. This conference is hosted by the Chinese Society for Literary and Artistic Theory, organized by the Youth Branch of the Chinese Society for Literary and Artistic Theory and the College of Liberal Arts and Journalism at IMU. The conference consists of a keynote forum and three sub-forums, with nearly 100 young scholars from colleges and research institutes across China in attendance.
Vice President Dahu Baiyila of IMU, Wang Feng, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Literary and Artistic Theory, Zhu Zhirong, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Literary and Artistic Theory, Wang Jiajun, deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Society for Literary and Artistic Theory, Prof. Tang Yonghua of East China Normal University, and Mi Yanqing, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Journalism of IMU, attended the conference. Faculty and graduate students from the College of Liberal Arts and Journalism of IMU also participated.
This youth forum received enthusiastic attention from scholars both within and outside Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It received academic support from six renowned journals including "Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art" "Exploration and Free Views" "Ethnic Art Studies" "Journal of Art Communication" "China Book Review" and "Commentaries On Literature And Art". Over 200 submissions were received from young scholars and graduate students from universities and research institutes nationwide. Finally, some excellent papers were selected and their authors were invited for offline discussions.
The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Yan Dong, the Deputy Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Journalism at IMU. Dahu Baiyila delivered the opening speech, warmly welcoming the young scholars who had come from afar and expressing hope that they would pay attention to the development of Inner Mongolia University, jointly contributing to higher education in the northern border region of the new era.
Mi Yanqing introduced the recent developments and academic achievements of the College of Liberal Arts and Journalism at IMU in her remarks. She highlighted that this youth forum not only provided a platform for communication with excellent scholars nationwide but also broadened the academic horizons of the young faculty and students, inspiring them to approach future academic research with greater enthusiasm and broader thinking.
Wang Feng pointed out in his speech that the youth forum has been held for twelve sessions so far, showing a thriving appearance. Young people represent the future, and the path taken by young scholars will determine the direction of future research in Chinese literary and artistic theory. He encouraged young scholars to cherish their youth and further solidify their steps in academic research, producing more high-quality academic results.
In the keynote forum session, Prof. Wang Qian of East China Normal University, Prof. Zhao Jingrong of Jinan University, Prof. Yang Jihua of Yunnan Normal University, Prof. Luo Liangqing of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Prof. Li Shirong of Inner Mongolia Arts Academy and Assoc. Prof. Zhang Chunxiao of Suzhou University presented academic reports, with Prof. Tang Yonghua of East China Normal University providing comments. Wang Qian took the "weather" in Chinese landscape paintings as an entry point to reveal the life consciousness and aesthetic ecosystem hidden behind it. Zhao Jingrong discussed the logic behind the formation of national memory communities. Yang Jihua used "objects" as a thread to explore the cultural shaping process of Song Dynasty people’s "Three Dynasties" memory continuation and identity. Luo Liangqing analyzed the body-space relationship and aesthetic activities in red cultural sites from a phenomenological perspective. Li Shirong shared insights into memory and imagination based on personal experience, encouraging consideration of individual experience in theoretical constructions of memory issues. Zhang Chunxiao examined the three layers of embodiment shown by the relationship between music and emotion. These scholars delivered insightful and eloquent academic presentations, generating a lively atmosphere.
The sub-forums were divided into "Theoretical Focus on Memory and Imagination" "Artistic Imagination and Cross-Media Expression of National Memory" and "National Image Shaping and Memory Inheritance in National Arts", and were held in three sessions in the morning and afternoon respectively. Over 60 young scholars spoke successively, bringing a hearty academic feast.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Wang Jiajun, and Zhu Zhirong delivered a closing speech. He hoped that scholars would maintain their original aspirations, continue to deepen their research, broaden their horizons, and elevate their positions, jointly promoting the construction of Chinese discourse systems and achieving innovation in Chinese discourse theory, striving for the future development of Chinese literary and artistic theory.
After a day of enthusiastic and fruitful academic exchanges, the 12th Youth Forum of the Chinese Society for Literary and Artistic Theory and the Academic Seminar on "National Memory and Artistic Imagination" successfully concluded.
