IMU Hosted the 10th National Graduate English Teaching and Development Forum

From June 29th to 30th, the 10th National Graduate English Teaching and Development Forum was successfully held at the Academic Conference Center of Saihan Campus in IMU.

This forum was organized by the Graduate English Teaching Research Branch of the Beijing Higher Education Association, co-hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of Inner Mongolia University, the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Press of Renmin University of China, with the assistance of Lansaige (Beijing) Information Technology Service Co., Ltd. More than 150 experts and scholars from all over the China, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Language and Culture University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and others attended the forum to jointly discuss the innovation and development of postgraduate English teaching. Prof. Du Fenglian, Vice President of IMU, attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Prof. Li Manliang, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of IMU.

In her opening remarks, Du Fenglian extended sincere welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the guests and experts for their presence, introduced the experiences and achievements of IMU in reforming graduate English education, and provided guiding opinions and suggestions for graduate English teaching and development.

Prof. Gao Yuan, Chairman of the Graduate English Teaching Research Branch of the Beijing Higher Education Association, and Zhao Youguang, head of the branch at Renmin University of China Press,delivered speeches respectively, congratulating the convening of the forum and expressing hope that this exchange would contribute to the high-quality development of graduate English teaching.

In the keynote report session, participating experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on various hot topics related to graduate English teaching.

Prof. Li Shujing from Peking University spoke on “Strengthening Problem-Oriented, Goal-Oriented, and Effect-Oriented Approaches to Improve the Quality and Efficiency of Graduate English Education”, discussing how to improve teaching content and methods through interdisciplinary integration and course-based political thought construction to enhance teaching effectiveness.

Prof. Wang Lifei from Beijing Language and Culture University pointed out that foreign language education should adapt to the development needs of new productive forces and cultivate foreign language talents with international competitiveness. Prof. Wei Li from IMU’s School of Foreign Languages comprehensively introduced the reform process and achievements of public English teaching for graduates at IMU, emphasizing the teaching concept of “Academization, Ideological and Political Education, and Internationalization” constructed by the teaching team in practicetransitioning from traditional teaching models to academic English teaching, focusing on enhancing graduates' academic language abilities and international communication perspectives, and achieving significant results in faculty development and outstanding talent cultivation.

Moreover, several sub-forums were set up to discuss themes, such as English teaching innovation in the era of artificial intelligence and the integration of ideological and political education in courses and academic English teaching. Through keynote presentations, group discussions, and other formats, participants shared their research findings and practical experiences, proposing many forward-looking viewpoints and suggestions.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Zhao Shu , IMU’s Deputy Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Prof. Zhang Ying, Deputy Chairman of the Graduate English Teaching Research Branch of the Beijing Higher Education Association and Zhao Youguang, Director of the branch of Renmin University of China Press, affirming the outcomes of the forum, and indicating continued support and promotion of reforms and development in graduate English teaching.

The successful hosting of this forum not only provided a high-level academic exchange platform for graduate English teaching but also clarified directions for future teaching reforms and innovations. Participants expressed that the meeting broadened their horizons, inspired their thinking, and strengthened their confidence in promoting the high-quality development of graduate English teaching.
