On November 3rd, at the annual conference of Natural Language Processing and Chinese Computing (NLPCC 2024), the Chinese Computer Federation's Special Committee on Natural Language Processing awarded Prof. Gao Guanglai from IMU's College of Computer Science (College of Software), College of Artificial Intelligence the 2024 CCF Natural Language Processing and Chinese Computing "Special Contribution" Award.
Prof. Gao Guanglai currently serves as the director of the National-Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Mongolian Intelligent Information Processing Technology, and concurrently as a member of the Eighth Ministry of Education Science and Technology Committee, deputy director of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence's Committee on Multilingual Intelligent Information Processing, and vice president of the Chinese Society for Modernization of Language and Script's Committee on the Modernization of Ethnic Minority Languages and Scripts.
Since the 1980s, Prof. Gao Guanglai has mainly engaged in research on artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, and intelligent information processing of the Mongolian language.He has successively undertaken 1 project of the National 863 Program, 1 project of the preliminary research special project of the National 973 Program, 1 project of the National Key R&D Program (Key Special Project of International Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation between Governments), 5 projects of the National Natural Science Fund, and 2 major projects of the Natural Science Fund of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region; he has cooperatively completed 4 projects of the Electronic Information Industry Development Fund of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. He took the lead in developing the "Printed Mongolian Character Recognition System""Large Vocabulary Mongolian Speech Recognition System" and "Mongolian Information Retrieval System" in China. The Mongolian operating system and Mongolian office software developed in cooperation with China Standard Software Company have been promoted and used as products. His scientific research achievements have won 1 Second Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, 1 Outstanding Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of CCF, and 4 Second Prizes of the Science and Technology Progress Award of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. He was awarded the Young Teacher Award of the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation in 1998, was rated as an Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Expert with Prominent Contributions in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2000, became an Expert Enjoying Special Government Allowances of the State Council in 2009, and was selected as one of the first batch of "Grassland Talents" in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2010.
